About the Artists

Breaking Real Bad

A collaboration between husband and wife, Jeff Nablo and Cheryl Troxel, these constructions are a mix of antiquated fervor and violence: raw, primitive, almost Pagan. They are a re-imagining of original religious messages of Christianity under Spanish rule, where people adopt the religion then ultimately subvert it.

We took this concept a step further into today’s world, where violence has become a religion… bullets become votive prayer candles, rosary beeds are replaced with jewelry and saints/sinners cohabitate.
