Kathy Hughes

Working with encaustics, New Orleans artist Kathy Hughes imparts a seemingly living texture to her pieces. The hot wax allows her to incorporate collage elements and debris into her original art, encapsulating it all in it's own solitary world. The process itself becomes a facet of the work, with brushstrokes, scratch marks and other tactile evidence of the artist's hand lending an indelible character to each piece.
