David Morico
About the Artist
David Morico was born in New Haven, Connecticut and attended Paier College of Art, where he met his wife, Dollka. David began winning awards for his art in the third grade and interned at the Yale Peabody Museum later on. As a youth, he was awarded by the Yale British Art Gallery and his drawings were published in their catalogs and sent around the world. Today, his art is celebrated nationally and represents two distinct styles; abstract and pop-art.
David’s abstract art is made of colorful landscapes that provoke a subtle mood. While his pop-art consists of bringing the old into the present where he gathers childhood memories and creates art pieces that relate to many people with price points ranging from $150 to $10,000.
David is inspired by Robert Rauschenberg, “his mind works similar to mine as far as being a collage artist and thinker. His earlier works were abstract and later developed into collage and pop-art”. Outside or producing art, David began his career as a Graphic Designer and Art Director for promotional marketing agencies, and later went on to work with New Haven County public schools and MoCA of Westport. Most recently, David opened the Christopher Robert Gallery, a pop-up and virtual gallery, and was Art Consultant for Embler Art Gallery. Today he works with his wife, Dollka Morico, on a project they created together, the Dollka and Dave Gallery located in New Canaan, Connecticut. His work is also shown in gallery spaces throughout the country.
David created a series of five pop-art paintings for CBS that paid tribute to the history of the TV network. These pieces are displayed in the executive offices. Private collectors have purchased his art for their homes and offices world-wide. A global restaurant company also purchased his art for their Italian theme restaurants and his work is also featured at the Yale clinical offices as part of their art collection. Studio EL Publications, in California, has sold many of his abstract works to corporations, hotels, and individuals nationwide.
David’s work has been shown at the Newbury Fine Arts, White Room Gallery, VW Contemporary, Chase Edward Gallery, Love Art Gallery, Lillian August, Ogilvy Building NYC Gallery Show, CSM Art, Uprise Art Gallery, Friedman Fine Arts, Turner Barnes UK, American Airlines Admirals Club New York, SPAG Artis Guild, Christopher Robert Gallery, Jean Jacob Gallery, Kismet Space, Bel Mondo, Maritime Garage Gallery, Westport Fine Arts Festival with SPAG group, Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library (Exhibit), Darien Library Art Gallery show, Red Dot Art Fair (NYC), Art Expo ( NYC & Las Vegas), Haviland Street Gallery, American Art Show (NYC), the J House Gallery in collaboration with Tony’s at the J House, and art festivals nationwide.
Philanthropic outreach includes but is not limited to Camp Rising Sun, CancerCare, Greenwich Hospital, United Way, Building Hope Foundation, The Hospice Foundation, Malta House, and Fenway Health. Together, David and his wife Dollka have a Chihuahua mix named Bonnie and two Yorkies (deceased) Pepe and Roni. They live and have studio spaces in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is one of the founding members of SPAG Art Guild (Norwalk) and was a partner of a virtual gallery with Bruce Horan.
